A powerful storyteller and a unique voice in Australia’s blues and roots scene, Emily Wurramara has amassed more than 16-million streams on Spotify alone. A Warnindhilyagwa woman from Groote Eylandt, she writes and sings in English and Anindilyakwa language. Her debut studio album, Milyakburra (2018) earned an ARIA Award nomination, an AIR Award win, as well as six Queensland Music Awards. The album spoke to Wurramara’s connection to land, country and to her family, offering audiences intimate and nuanced insight into her experiences. Her 2024 album NARA (meaning “nothing” in Anindilyakwa language) offers a new perspective from Wurramara’s point of view; she has let herself grow into an even more confident vocalist and artist. She has graced the stage with musicians such as Michael Franti, Mavis Staples, Midnight Oil, Missy Higgins and Thelma Plum, and appeared on Triple J’s Like a Version. Emily is also a passionate advocate for environmental issues, mental health awareness and youth suicide prevention.
