Workshop:
Join 47SOUL for an engaging workshop exploring the connections between traditional Palestinian Dabke and contemporary genres like hip-hop, dancehall, and electronica. Learn the basics of Dabke dance moves, including styles like Laff, Jobi, and Baladi, while discovering the role of instruments like the mijwiz and how basslines and production techniques create their unique sound. The session also delves into vocal styles—singing, rapping, and toasting—and the cultural themes of celebration, liberation, and resilience that shape their music. A blend of tradition and modernity, this workshop offers a hands-on experience in both movement and music.
___
Formed in Jordan in 2013, 47SOUL melds hip-hop, electronica and R&B with the sounds of Dabke, the traditional music from the Levantine region. Their style became its very own music genre, named after the band’s groundbreaking first EP Shamstep. In the decade since its release, 47SOUL has toured the world and built a following across Arab countries, the global Arab diaspora and beyond. With three studio releases to their name, 47SOUL continues to march the Shamstep movement forward with infectious energy and powerful, thought-provoking Arabic and English lyrics that explore the political, the philosophical, and call for the recognition of the common humanity of all people.
