WOMADelaide 2012 is over - what a great festival, and what a way to celebrate our 20th birthday. With ideal sunny weather (averaging 29°C), an outstanding program and truly brilliant live performances, it was a beautiful atmosphere, with attendances of over 87,000. If you were there, thank you for coming!
WOMAD is the World of Music, Arts & Dance founded by Peter Gabriel. In 2012 it celebrates 30 years in the UK. WOMADelaide began in 1992 and has gone on to become one of Australia's most loved festivals.
WOMADelaide runs over four days in Adelaide’s Botanic Park. The program features performances and workshops on seven stages by the world's best traditional and contemporary musicians, dancers and DJs, a KidZone, street theatre artists and visual artists, the Taste the World cooking program, Artists in Conversation and around 100 food, retail and charity stalls.
WOMADelaide 2013 will be held from Friday 8 – Monday 11 March.
Artist applications are now open, stallholder applications will open in August and volunteer applications in September — see the getting involved page for more details. The program will be announced in stages, from around mid-October 2012.
It is with heavy hearts that we at WOMADelaide hear of the passing of one of Australia's most loved musicians and singers, Jimmy Little, after a long illness.
MoreTwo members of the Grammy-Award winning band, Tinariwen, are no longer able to perform at WOMADelaide on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 March due to a dramatic escalation in the conflicts between the MLNA (Mouvement de Liberation National Azawad) and the Malian Government army in the drought and famine-stricken region of north Mali in which they live.
