DUBIOZA KOLEKTIV
Bosnia & Herzegovina
Warning – strobe effects used
The biggest band in the Balkans, DUBIOZA KOLEKTIV is an anarchic, must-see live act. A high-energy mix of influences, their music is based in Balkan traditions with injections of ska, punk, reggae, electronica and hip-hop. Although deeply serious and political in their lyrics, their songs are also loaded with black humour and irresistibly danceable rhythms that keep audiences on their feet. They formed in 2003 in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Bosnian war, when the country was in a deep state of moral and economic stagnation. Since then they have performed at Glastonbury, made their US debut at South by Southwest and achieved international success across the world, touring tirelessly and performing more than 100 shows a year. DUBIOZA KOLEKTIV takes traditional musical forms and enriches them with their unique perspective and a level of positivity that hits you like a blast of fresh air.
Workshop:
Explore the endless potential of two-chords songwriting, discuss how a lack of formal music education led to the development of innovative creative technique known as 3R and learn how to reuse, reduce and recycle a song with DUBIOZA KOLEKTIV. Try to sing a traditional song from the remote mountainous regions of ‘Apsurdistan’ with masterful guidance from the band members.
